New Year Day – January 1st – Why do we place so much value on this day? It’s not a magic day, it’s just a day. But we give it all this power and put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make a deadline, to resolve to do something.
Some of us, including me this year, look at New Years Day as a fresh start and a line between what was and what is.
But I find myself asking, “are we approaching this the right way” and I think the answer is no.
Doesn’t each day hold this potential – the potential for positive change, to distance yourself from the painful past, to create something new and different? Or, at least, shouldn’t it?? YES
This new year, I’m going think of each day as a new opportunity. Trust me, after the December I had I was truly grateful for the grey line to be drawn between 2014 and 2015. But it’s my decision to wake up each morning and look at each at each day as a new possibility that has truly helped me find my mojo again. (see last week’s post) It was not a magic mid-night on December 31st that has made this change, I made it!
It’s in my decision at each meal, to eat better. It’s in my decision at each bark, to treat my dogs with more patience. It’s in your moment to honor your (fill in your resolution here). That doesn’t happen because of the new year. It’s in choice at each moment of each day. CHOICE!!
What I like about this way of thinking is that change in thought, change in perspective, change in life doesn’t have to wait for an arbitrary date created on a calendar. Change can happen whenever you decide to make
it happen. On that day and in that instant that you do something differently. Think about that for a moment, think of the power you give yourself when you realize that dates have nothing to do with it, you have everything to do with it.
Let me say that again
You have everything to do with it…
So instead of waiting for the new year, or your birthday, or a day with sunshine, or, or or….Take back each
day and decide what you are going to do to create your vision and to live the life you want.
So NOT Happy New Year but really Happy New Day – make the most of it!
We all have ups and downs in life. We learn from both, but the more we choose to focus on the positive aspects, sharing, beeing greatful for what we have, the more energy we have for use. Good use.
I love this post! Such a great reminder to live our vision each and every day instead of waiting for the “right time” or “later.” Thank you, KC!
