The 3 i’s of Vision
Several people have asked me the significance of the three bright yellow letters “i” in the BLV logo. If I were being honest, I would admit to it being a happy accident. Actually, I will go ahead and be honest, it WAS a happy accident. These things happen all the time. We are human and there is no way to avoid them. Perfection is overrated – it’s boring you can’t achieve it. It’s what we do with the accidents and mistakes that is important. We can turn them into happy things, or learning experiences, or growth opportunities, or mistakes we’ll never make again. For me, the lovely yellow letters “i” was an accident that I turned into an opportunity.
As discussed in the Vision & Personal Mastery section of this site, Personal Mastery is the understanding of me and my reality + the development of and capacity to clarify and express what matters most – and the discipline to choose both. When I put the happy accident / opportunity into the framework of personal mastery, the three i’s represent:
-
I know myself (Reality
-
I live my vision (Vision)
-
I choose both (Personal Mastery)
What a powerful word “choose!” Each day we choose thousands of things, from the clothing we are wearing to how we respond to bad news. Some things are easier to choose to than others, but choice is always present. You can’t always choose what happens to you but you can choose how you respond, what to do next, even how to feel. Vision can be the sanity check, the stabilizing force and the better perspective to make better choices. It isn’t always easy, I admit that, but your vision should be so important to you and so powerful for you that you “choose” to look at everything through that paradigm. Your vision should be a lens through which you view the world; it should guide your sight and help you choose the best action or response for you. One of the things that I am using to help keep this front of mind is the “I” statement…
I know what the three letters “i” in BigLIfeVision mean for me. What do they mean to you? Maybe my suggestion works for you. Maybe it doesn’t – that is your choice. So I am providing you with two downloads:
1) the “i” of vision as you read it here. I statements.BLV
2) a blank “i” worksheet to develop your own statements.blank I statements.BLV
My challenge for you (I will post this in the discussion groups too) is either use the ones I’ve developed or use something more meaningful for you then to focus each day for a couple of minutes on the “i” statements. Come back, discuss and share what it does for you…
