What is life without aspiration? When the lottery gets over $80 million (I don’t know why that much) I will buy a couple of tickets. I always think the $5 spend is worth the daydream conversation. The first thing on my daydream list is travel. I love to travel, want to travel more, but can’t find the right financial situation to travel as much as I would like. Still, I get the magazines pictured here. They are aspirational magazines. The reminder to keep stretching, reaching and planning, and someday I’ll get there. After all, that is what vision-centered living can bring into your life.
This is largely how I learned to cook. I started as an aspirational chef. I love to eat. I love wine. When I was in my 20s and first married – I could not cook. Today, I am a pretty reliable chef de cuisine at Maison BigLife. It started when I subscribed to a couple of epicurean magazines. They provided me with recipes to try at varying levels of difficulty. I started out as a rule-follower, reading and following the recipes to the letter, but as my confidence grew I began to trust my nose and my taste, I began to experiment and explore and my aspiration became my reality. So I know this works.
The magazines that arrive in my mailbox today do the same thing for me. Two years ago I left the continent for the first time (France!) and now the travel magazines in particular have me pining for more. Bora Bora, anyone? All of these beautiful resources help me expand my world vision, stretch to bring other things into my life, and help enhance my vision of a BigLife.
How do you use aspiration to live your vision? How do you support others?

I have subscribed to Mother Earth Magazine recently with the intention of making my home (and maybe others in my neighborhood) more ecology friendly.
I am always interested in new ways to preserve our planet. The crazy weather changes and disasters that happen quite frequently are speaking to me.
Karen – I love that – living your vision and inspiring others. Powerful. Peter Senge, whose works this comes from, uses his vision to create a sustainable world.
Kimberly, your visioning exercise really helped me to begin exploring and creating my own vision. THANK YOU! My husband and I recently returned from our amazing honeymoon abroad. Six months later than most people might take a honeymoon, but it was our honeymoon nonetheless. What we thought were places we’d only dream of crossing off our bucket lists became reality. While we traveled, I met a woman who told me that the great thing about bucket lists is when you can cross items off, it opens up space to add to your list or to create a new list. Our journey overseas opened my eyes to new adventure, new friends, and new possibilities. I aspire now to keep the adventure going. Obviously, finances may not allow all of the adventures that we want right now but we now have something to start planning for in the future– something that we can start believing WILL eventually happen. Pinterest is a fun web site to help keep all of my aspirations in one visual space. It’s a great way to help me dream BIG! 🙂
Bonnie – Good for You. Traditions are yours to create – honeymoon 6 months later may be the perfect plan to enjoy your actual honeymoon (I had a college professor that totally believed in that). I will use / borrow this concept about crossing one thing off the list makes room for the other – brilliant – thank you for sharing. I am just discovering Pinterest – and need to spend a bit more time – but so many love it for the reasons you are sharing. As your married life evolves don’t get bogged down with other stuff, continue to cross off the bucket list. The valuable lesson I learned from my parents, who were waiting until retirement to travel the world, is sometimes tomorrow doesn’t come (see post on dad) then you are left with a long list. Grab each each and go for it – whatever that means to you. Congratulations!!!
I gravitate to Home design shows and magazines with the goal of building or remodeling our next home with my vision inspired by the pros and my husbands skill. All to be done on a dime to stay true to my big life vision of living simple and adding value with family memories!
Nice Natalie – thank you for sharing. I hear a bit of “home is where we are and what we create” vs. what we own or the zip code. I love that sentiment and home design shows and magazines are fun too.
